Oakland Raiders NFL Baby / Infant 2 Piece Dazzle Onesie Jersey and Pants Set

Different people have nicknames in sports. These words describe them and their performance in the team. Most of the time, they are blessed with these nicknames by their fellow teammates or by the commentators of the game. Michael Jordan was called the Air Jordan. He acquired this because of his ability to suspend in air when making a shot and his fancy moves when making a shot. George Herman Ruth, Jr. was popularly known as the Babe Ruth because he was considered as the new Babe of Jack (owner of the Baltimore Orioles). However, it is not only players of the sport, who gets a chance to have name attachments. Coaches have nicknames too.

If you ask, who was the bear of football? It is no other than Paul Bryant. He got this nickname because of accepting a challenge to fight with a bear in exchange for a dollar. Despite having this nickname attached to him since he was thirteen years old, this person have coached many teams. However, he was best associated with the team whom he has helped to win six National Championships. He became a part of the Hall of Fame for College Baseball because of his performance with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Mike Ditka was also one of the football coaches who earned a nickname. He was called as the Iron Mike back in his professional playing years. This was because He led the Chicago Bears to win their Super Bowl Title in 1986.

Earl Louis Lambeau, head coach of the Green Bay Packers from 1921-49, was called Curly. If you ask why he was called such, well all you have to do is look at is photo. He had a stadium named after him and it is called Lambeau Stadium. This is the home field of the Green Bay Packers.

Steve Superior, head coach of University of South Carolina Football team, was also called as "The Ol' Ball Coach". This was the nickname he incurred in his coaching years and it is like a slang of the other one which is "The Head Ball Coach". He led the University of Florida in to winning Championships Titles from SEC and the Nationals. He also won the Heisman Award back in 1996.

If we have the Bear, we also have the Papa Bear in Football. He is no other than George Halas, Sr.. He was also called as the Mr. Everything. He took hold of the Chicago Cubs in 1921 were he practically became everything, a player, administrator and owner of the team. He even coached them even when he was playing. No wonder this guy is called Mr. Everything! He managed to help the team win six championship titles. This guy deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

Nicknames for coaches apply from amateur teams like Alabama Crimson Tide to professional teams like Chicago Cubs. Not many players or coaches have nicknames that they can go by with. Sometimes, it only comes for those who have made memorable moments, performed well and made a big impact for the NFL.

Freddie Brister is a huge fan of the SEC and the Alabama Crimson Tide. His love for the game of football started with an older brother passing the pigskin around in the backyard with cousins and neighborhood friends. He later played in high school, college and coached high school football for 25 years, before retiring to write for Sports Fan Treasures. Check out his Alabama Crimson Tide Merchandise.

Each NFL Sports Spud includes a team jersey, helmet, foam finger, football, and other components. A great fan item - a great collectible!
Customer Review: Great for A Dolphins Fan!
I bought as a stocking stuffer for my son. This is a small 'spud' potato, not the large 'Mr. Potato Head' kind. He didn't play with it much, but displayed with his other Miami Dolphins collectables.

Customer Review: Great Fan Piece!
If you're looking for warm - this really isn't it, but if you want a great fan piece that will give you light coverage - this is your blanket! My son loves it!
Customer Review: New Orleans Saints fleece throw
Purchased the throw for a youngster, for Christmas, who happens to be a Saints fan. It arrived in a timely manner just like they promised. It looks just like the illustration. My only disappointment was I thought it was going to be a little heavier than it is. But it will be fine for a nine year old. He was thrilled and that is what is important.

Here is my description of the top ten defenses in the NFL. This season looks to be a roller coaster and a lot of teams will have trouble staying on top of this list. This was written after week three so things may change from now to later in the season.

10. Arizona Cardinals: They have some of the sickest safeties in the league. We're talking Adrian Wilson and Antrel Rolle. The corners are not bad either. I mean they got Rodgers Cromartie as well as other consistent players. They would be higher on this list but their run defense is suspect. I haven't heard of any of their linebackers or defensive lineman. And I'm sure you haven't either. They are allowing 100 yards per game rushing which is not bad but they have played San Fran, Miami, and Washington. So not the toughest foes just yet.

9. Green Bay Packers: They would also be much higher if they hadn't just lost Al Harris for a couple games. They have a great secondary and just couldn't keep it together against a great Cowboys offense last weekend. They gave up 48 points against the Lions, come on it's the Lions. They fired their coach this past week cause he's so horrible. They may be a playoff team but that is partly because of their offense.

8. N.Y. Giants: Here is a team with tons of big name lineman and linebackers. Plus that is without Michael Strahan. Can I just say Daaang! They are holding teams to 84 yards per game rushing and 167 through the air. Not bad week in and week out. They blitz hard and they seem to get like 6 to 8 sacks a game. Their secondary keeps opponents in check and doesn't get beat deep.

7. Philadelphia Eagles: Solid defense all around. Yes they gave up 40 plus against the Cowboys. But that is a stellar offense on that Dallas team. It was literally the two best teams going at it, but I digress. They have been holding their other opponents scoring to a minimum and will dominate throughout the year. Held Pittsburgh to six points and St. Louis to three! As Borat once said "Very Nice!"

6. Tennesee Titans: As hard as it to not talk about the offense, I will attempt it. Well, their defense is going to be on the field a lot longer which will lead to more teams scoring on them once they get tired. They are in the top ten because they have done all right so far. However maintaining this will take a miracle. Good luck Titans!

5. Dallas Cowboys: This team I would like to put higher but everyone above of them is just outrageous on defense. They have a stellar backfield now with Pac Man Jones and Terrence Newman. Linebackers like Zach Thomas and Demarcus Ware make up a vicious pass and run stopping team.

4. Buffalo Bills: With Donte Whitner at Strong Safety and other all around players on D these Bills keep shutting down opponents. They also have Marcus Shroud at Defensive Tackle, that guy can play! They could stay at the top of their division if they keep playing like this. Out with the old(New England) in with the new(Bills). Who knows we could get a repeat of the Cowboys Bills Super Bowls.

3. Minnesota Vikings: Holding teams to 70.3 rushing yards per game, that is second best in the league. On top of that their pass defense is ridiculously good. They have Darren Sharper at Safety and Antoine Winfield and Cedric Griffin for Corners. Their defensive line is the one Coaches drool over. If they can get their offense clicking that would benefit their defense so they have some time to sip some Gatorade and cool off.

2. Pittsburgh Steelers: I can't remember a time in my lifetime where they weren't amazing on defense. They might have trouble keeping it together though this season as Casey Hampton and Brett Keisel of the defensive line are out for the season.

1. Baltimore Ravens: Wow. Maybe I should stop right there. They are holding their opponents to 70 yards per game on the ground and 90 yards through the dark sky their foe must be seeing. Yes I know what your all thinking, why didn't I get them on my fantasy team, well I'm in the same boat but lets move on. Now yes you could say they only played 2 opponents thus far. But still, the Browns and Bengals are struggling, but they still have threats on offense like Chad Johnson that were contained by the Ravens.

As we approach the home stretch in college basketballs regular season, handicappers look more and more at how meaningful a game might be to a particular team. There are conference races taking place, tournament seedings and even RPI ratings at stake for many teams. Of course, there are also meaningless games with nothing at stake.

These points are particularly true with Saturdays Bracket Buster games. Several teams are matched up against each other with losing records with pretty much nothing at stake. The name Bracket Buster gives the illusion that every game has an interesting nonconference matchup that should provide some kind of excitement. As George and Ira Gershwin once wrote, "It aint necessarily so." Here are some meaningless games this weekend featuring teams with losing records: Indiana State/Western Michigan, Wright State/Bowling Green and Delaware/Cleveland State. You couldnt give me a ticket to see those games.

Another factor to consider is that these are nonconference games, so the scheduling spot is unusual for all teams. That is, some teams are in close battles for first place in their respective conferences, and now they have to step OUT of conference play Saturday, and then jump back into conference play the next game sometime next week. Teams that are focused on catching another team in the conference, for instance, have to put that aside for one game and worry about a WIN rather than conference positioning. Its important to keep close tabs on teams that may be looking past their bracket buster battle.

Louisiana Tech plays at Southern Illinois Saturday, as the WAC meets the Missouri Valley Conference. Southern Illinois is not likely to lay down for this game, as they are always tough at home. They recently had a 33-game home win streak end, so they take great pride in defending their home turf. On the other hand, Southern Illinois is currently locked in a wild race in the Missouri Valley Conference. So to suddenly play a team from the WAC in the middle of this great race is unusual. A handicapper needs to take all these factors into consideration.

There are also some interesting games where RPI and power ratings are at stake. Again, Southern Illinois is one of these, with an 18-8 record as they close in on a 20-win season. Another is George Mason at Wichita State, featuring two powerhouse teams from the MVC and the Colonial.

Many sports fans might overlook a game like Bucknell at Northern Iowa at first glance, but it is an interesting battle between two 20-win teams that are looking to improve their RPI rankings. Bucknell is ranked 24th in the nation. Also remember that one team has the home court edge, which means it's critical to check how the opponent plays on the road. So, Bracket Buster weekend offers some interesting matchups where intangibles can be a big part of the equation. But it also offers duds like Youngstown State/Canisius! Enjoy the weekend....Al McMordie.

The highlight of Alabama at Tennessee game was the fact that Alabama's defense gave up a stingy 11 yards in the first quarter and 26 in the third quarter. They were solid in the other quarters too.

Alabama relied on their stingy defense and a running game. Alabama scored 26 straight points and won by 20 over the Volunteers. Alabama is still unbeaten. Alabama has won two in a row against Tennessee since the 1991 season. They have now won three out of the last four meetings between the schools.

I've never been prouder of our team, our players the way they competed in the game," Alabama head coach Nick Saban said. "Tennessee's got a good football team and they played with a lot of heart and a lot of toughness out there tonight. That was a really good football team."

The Alabama defense held the Vols to 173 yards in total offense on the night. The Crimson Tide allowed only 36 rushing yards in the win. Alabama sacked Tennessee quarterback Nick Stephens twice and forced seven punts.

"I think the defense did a really good job," safety Rashad Johnson said. "There were times we were put in tough situations and we did a good job of keeping them out of the end zone, especially early in the game. We really stepped up to the challenge and had a pretty good game."

Alabama made a crucial defensive stand once they were leading 6-3 in the second quarter. They held Tennessee to an unsuccessful field goal attempt after they partially blocked a punt that had given the Volunteers possession at the Alabama 32 yard line. Alabama scored a touchdown on their next possession after Tennessee missed a field goal. Alabama QB John Parker Wilson hit Julio Jones for passes of 19 and 35 yards. Glen Coffee found the end zone four plays later when he ran 3 yards out to give the Crimson Tide a ten point lead a couple of points before halftime.

Tennessee missed another crucial field goal and Alabama kept their ten point lead.

"This is the best we've played in my opinion since the Clemson game," Saban said. "We played a complete game today. This was a complete game by our team today and it certainly needed to be because I have a tremendous amount of respect for their football team."

The Crimson Tide's offense held the ball for over 35 minutes. They converted all four of their red-zone scoring chances. They were 2-for-2 on fourth down conversions.

Upchurch finished with 14 carries for 86 yards and a touchdown. Coffee rushed with the ball 19 times for 79 yards and a touchdown.

"The way we ran the ball tonight, those running backs did really good," Wilson said. "We were able to mix in the pass and stay really balanced and come out with a good attack. With the way our defense played tonight, if we just kept the ball and didn't turn it over, we were going to win the game."

Alabama's last touchdown came in the last quarter. They put together 8 plays for 65-yards. That touchdown came after a four yard run that brought the score to 29 to 3. The Volunteers only touchdown came on its last drive. Stephens threw a 10-yard pass to Josh Briscoe in the end zone.

What?! The Cardinals are in the playoffs? They won their division?! That's right folks, after 20 years Arizonans have something to cheer about. For only the second time since coming to the valley of the sun, the Cardinals have finished above .500 and have gone to the playoffs. 1998 saw the Cardinals, lead by ex- Arizona State University Sun Devils standout Quarterback Jake "The Snake" Plummer, make their first trip since coming here in 1988. That year they knocked the Dallas Cowboy's, led by criminals Michael Irvin and Leon Lett, out in the NFC Wild Card game with a convincing 20-7 victory. Of course, they lost to the Minnesota Vikings the next game. Now we once again have hope my friends! After finishing the season 9-7 and clinching the NFC West division the Cards went on to beat the Atlanta Falcons 30-24 at home. This victory came 61 years after their last playoff home game, which was when the 1947 Chicago Cardinals won the only championship in team history. Could we be witnessing the rebirth of a long thought dead organization? In my humble, completely biased opinion...YES!!! Call me crazy, but the red and white has a chance.

The Cardinals are fueled by aging but reborn Quarterback Kurt Warner and, OH MY, are they every fun to watch! They have the best tandem of receivers in Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin, who is possibly the toughest receiver ever to play the game. I mean, come on, the guy played with a fractured hip last season and this year bounces back after a frightening helmet-to-helmet hit against the Jets. He terrorizes his opponents. No team has an answer for the Warner-Boldin-Fitzgerald dilemma they face. Edgerrin James, who has taken a backseat to rookie Tim Hightower, even out ran Atlanta's Michael Turner this last game. Turner is the number two rusher in the league, and by shutting him down and increasing the effectiveness of their own running game, the Cards show they are ready. All season everyone has known about their passing game but the running game has been stagnant at best. The Cards get to the playoffs and they step it up a notch and begin to make teams worry about the rush so they are not as effective against the pass. Who would've thought the Cardinals had it in them? The team has a bright future as long as they can keep this group together. With ex- University of Southern California star Quarterback Matt Leinart taking lessons from two time NFL Most Valuable Player Warner, even when Warner calls it quits we will be a force to be reckoned with.

So, our next victims will be the Carolina Panthers, and then the winner of the New York Giants - Philadelphia Eagles game. Of course these will be tough games as the Cards lost to all three of these teams this year, but any true fan will tell you the red and white terror will take the NFC title and move on to the Super Bowl. I can just see it now, February 1st, 2009 in Tampa Bay, Fl the nation will be in awe as the Arizona Cardinals Face the San Diego Chargers for the right to call themselves the nation's best. Two teams that just a couple of years ago seemed like they would never even sniff the playoff branch again.
