Have you become a Notre Dame Football fan or are you a die hard like me? There are some great things about being a fan of Notre Dame and just like with any other team there are some times when you want to fire the entire staff and start over. Here is what I think about the recent Notre Dame football recruiting.

Charlie Weis has stepped the recruiting up by leaps and bounds. The first thing that shows this is all the talent in the freshman class this year. The majority of the touchdowns that Jimmy Clausen is throwing are being caught by freshmen. Golden Tate would be the one exception, but he is just a sophomore and another one of that Weis recruited.

When Willingham was coach they might have 6 or so verbal commitments by September compared to Weis who has averaged between 15 and 20. Weis is able to steal recruits from USC, Florida, Texas, Nebraska, and many other top programs. This includes Michael Floyd, who is an outstanding wide receiver and very fast. He was highly recruited by many school, but he chose Notre Dame even during a year that they only had 3 wins.

The improvement is there and it comes to no surprise that the Notre Dame football recruiting is so much better. If you think about it, then you would realize that it would be difficult to say no to Weis. He can come into your living room with one of 4 different Super Bowl rings on his finger and he has a staff that comes from all different areas of the country. Plus if you are good enough he has no problem playing you as a freshman.

Two years ago my youngest sibling graduated from high school and went off to college, officially leaving my parents with an empty nest. But they weren't unprepared; they had already arranged to take on a foreign exchange student for a year. Well, maybe they were a little unprepared. After raising four rambunctious girls, when quiet, well-mannered Jalil arrived from Marrakech, Morocco, I don't think they fully realized all the challenges that lay ahead in connecting and communicating with him. He spoke English quite well, but, as with everything, was very shy about using it.

My parents were happy with their decision to have a foreign student, but initially they were at a loss of how to relate to him. They encouraged him to feel at home - from raiding the refrigerator to vegging on the couch in front of the tube. And that's where the connection finally happened. One evening Jalil was quietly watching TV when my parents got home from work. As another part of their plan to avoid the effects of empty-nest syndrome, my parents had recently purchased a massive High Definition TV with Satellite broadcasting (of course they do this after all their children move out), but they hadn't really bothered to use it much yet. There was Jalil watching a movie in Arabic when they didn't even know they got Arabic programming as part of the satellite TV package!

Immediately they could see that Jalil was getting something he had really missed, a connection to the world he had always lived in and known. So my parents plopped down in front of the TV with him and watched the rest of the movie. He described the plot to them in English in great detail, and my mother later wrote to tell me that was the most she had heard him speak all at once since he moved in!

From there the TV became a great mode of socializing in an easy, comfortable way. My dad finally had a "son" whom he could explain the nuances of American football to. They ended up religiously fixed to the NFL Sunday Ticket every week - I can just picture my father's euphoria at finally having at least one member of the household who took a real interest in the sport. At the same time, Jalil taught my parents the finer points of soccer (something my sisters and I had somehow failed to do even after years of playing the sport).

If my father was thrilled to have someone to share his NFL Sunday Ticket with, he was even more delighted to finally have a way to open up with Jalil and really experience a cultural exchange. My parents took advantage of their HDTV purchase and used it to build a bond with their adopted family member. When one of my sisters went home for a weekend visit, apparently she had to do battle with the formerly-timid Jalil over the TV remote (she was less impressed by the Arabic programming and wanted to watch Lost), and in the end my parents negotiated a compromise and they watched sports, the four of them sitting together in the living room, a real family.

For the best in entertainment, look to Direct TV. When you select one of the many great Direct TV packages, you get television entertainment from the leading provider of high definition satellite television services. For top sports programming, movies, and high-definition entertainment, go with Direct TV.

One mistake I see sports bettors making is they get too deep into stats and information. The best way to approach a matchup is to use the method of K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid). Usually when you look at a matchup the answer is pretty obvious, and that obvious answer is usually the right one. There will always be matchups that can go either way like two solid teams playing each other, the best way to get down on these games is to not get down at all.

The problem we usually face is not "who's going to win?" it's "who's going to cover the spread?" I'm talking about basketball and football. When it comes to baseball and hockey the same methods apply without the factor of a point spread unless you like puck lines and run lines.

Some people get so deep into stats that all the information starts to cancel out the two teams. The trick is to narrow your research to the important stats the ones that count. For example, in football, turnovers are a unpredictable part of the game. If I see a team that averages 1.4 fumbles per game against one that averages 2 fumbles per game I am not going to assume that one will fumble more than the other in this game. A good way to identify the key stats to look at is to go through game logs and pick out what the winners did at and what the losers didn't do. You'll be surprised on how consistent some of these stats are. Since we're in the seasons of football, basketball, and hockey I will cover some of the factors here that are important to each game. This will also give you a better understanding of my systems sections and why I choose certain aspects of a game.

If you've read my systems page for football you'll know that I preach the yards per pass stat. Many people have argued this and that's ok, I made it sound like that was the only factor to consider and I was probably wrong to say that. Do this now, go to yahoo.com and take a look at the boxscores for any week of the NFL and count out how many winners had a better yards per pass number. You'll notice only a couple teams each week won the game with a smaller YPP. Just by knowing this you have a key stat to look at while you handicap. This is definitely a key stat but unfortunately this is not the golden key to predicting who will win the game or who will cover. If it was we'd all be rich and Vegas would be out of business.

Another factor that will heavily weigh out the winners from the losers is to look at scoring margins. This works for football and basketball and will help you determine who can beat the spread as well. The best way to get a good sample of any stat is to always look at conference games or division games and not overall games. Teams play their best in conference games and this way you draw a good sample of their ability when they want a win. Let's walk through the thursday night matchup for this week and see what we can find.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2008
INDIANAPOLIS @ JACKSONVILLE +6.5 TOTAL 44

Just by looking at the record here Indy 11-4 and Jacksonville 5-9 you should already have the perception that Indy will win the game outright, that part is easy but not that easy. There is still a possibility that Jacksonville can pull off a victory or lose the game by less than 6 points. So let's pad our decision with some key stats.

We'll start with yards per pass offense and defense.

MATCHUP YPPO YPPD MARGIN
INDIANAPOLIS 6.7 6.3 0.4
JACKSONVILLE 6.2 7.2 -1.0

You can see with overall stats Indy has a small edge in the margin and passing game. Let's go a step further and look at yards per rush.

MATCHUP YPRO YPRD MARGIN
INDIANAPOLIS 3.4 4.2 -0.7
JACKSONVILLE 4.2 4.1 0.1

Interesting result, The stats are about even with Jacksonville holding a very small edge. Now let's use division games only and see what we can come up with. I'm choosing division stats over conference stats because it's late enough in the season to draw a good sample.

MATCHUP YPPO YPPD MARGIN
INDIANAPOLIS 6.5 7.1 -0.6
JACKSONVILLE 5.8 7.8 -2

As you can see when using division games the stats change drastically making the Colts look worse than their record and Jacksonville looks about right. Another thing to notice when going back is to pay attention to improvements. We all know Indy started out struggling and you can see improvements through out the season. I'm not going to go too deep here but this is a good way to look at all per play type stats, Yards per pass, yards per play, yards per point and yards per rush. That pretty much sums up the stats area, now let's take a quick look at scoring margins using division games only.

MATCHUP PF PA MARGIN
INDIANAPOLIS 26.5 27 0.5
JACKSONVILLE 18.8 23.8 5

So what kind of conclusion can we draw from all this? For starters I can tell you that 44 points seems like a low total, both teams allowing an average combined total of 50.8 points per division game and the yards per pass defense is a total average of 7.5. The league average score is 22 and the league average yards per pass is 6.5. Even though the offensive stats don't reflect that it is more important to look at defenses first when figuring totals. The reason is that an offense will do better against poor defenses. An above average offense may not score a lot against an above average defense.

So who is going to cover the spread? From the looks of it I can say that Indianapolis will probably win but not cover. Unfortunately there is not enough solid evidence for me to pick Indianapolis here, so the side in this game would be a pass.

The other stat we didn't look at is yards per point, the underrated stat that can really do all the work for you. In the next lesson I will discuss a deep analysis of yards per point. It is so strong that it will blow your mind. In part two of the method of K.I.S.S. we'll get into it. Then in the 3rd part I will get into basketball because that's what will be on tap after football.

NFL Super Bowl XLIII: Pittsburgh Steelers Champions DVD

On February 1, 2009, the Pittsburgh Steelers became the first franchise in NFL history to win their sixth Super Bowl. The title was the Steelers second in four seasons. It was the first under second-year head coach Mike Tomlin. Led by a defense that ranked first in yards allowed per game (237.2), passing yards allowed per game (156.9), points allowed per game (13.9) and second in rushing yards allowed per game (80.3), the Steelers finished the regular season 12-4 to win the AFC North Division title. After defeating San Diego and Baltimore in the AFC playoffs, Pittsburgh culminated its championship run with a victory over the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII. Relive all the thrilling moments of the 2008 Steelers, from Opening Day right through Super Bowl XLIII. NFL Films tells their story with action highlights and exclusive sideline and locker room sound from Pittsburghs record-setting season.
Customer Review: Its ok, ya gotta have as nothing else available!!
Oh my, this season was a heart stopper!! Starting with everyone knowing it was the toughest game by game schedule in the NFL, to winning 5 or more games in the last 2 minutes INCLUDING the Super Bowl!! I could not wait to get my DVD which I ordered the same night or the next morning after the superbowl game!! I just wanted to watch that amazing season in a slower state of mind!! I wanted to actually see the plays and heart pounding comebacks vs having my head bowed in a terrible towel! :--) I wanted to get the always fantastic music and quality commentary one always gets on this type of DVD, as each game and each week consumed itself to the eventual stunning Super Bowl victory... I figured this was a slam dunk easy to paint and present us a Mona Lisa as they have all the data and info already on film!! If there were other DVDs available, I would toss this in the trash. Its a B- effort and season synopsis regarding a A+ season! It barely touches on the Steelers beyond fantastic, moving, injury filled, incredibly difficult, comeback game after game, season!! The DVD given todays technolgy, commentators able to add or delete the play by plays after the fact, could have been so much better IMO. As nothing else is available, ya gotta have it :------) So buy it, enjoy it! Lordy having a corner on the market shows what happens to quality! Again I give a B- grade on what should have been a easy A+ DVD. OH TO ALL THE REVIEWERS WHO THOUGHT THIS THE FULL GAME!! I ordered this still totally drunk with victory. How you thought it was the full game DVD and why you would type a review as such IS BEYOND ME!! I had no problem reading was season highlights in the descriptions! Go Steelers!! David.. A Die Hard Steelers Fan since 1960!!
Customer Review: The Entire Season... Naturally
Why are Steeler fans so surprised that this is a season highlight DVD? Just 3 years ago NFL Films did the same thing: released the highlight DVD shortly after Super Bowl XL and released the entire set of playoff games later in the year. The Super Bowl XL DVD was amazing - this one falls slightly short of that, but it's definitely worth a buy for any Steeler fan. Relax, you'll get your entire Super Bowl XLIII later this year... but what NFL Films does here is to try and tell the story of the 2008 Steelers like a movie. The Super Bowl win is even more amazing in the context of the season that led up to it. Oh, and the two minute clip featured above, it is in the DVD, it's just been recut. The version you see up there is probably from a rough cut, which is normal in video and film editing. They punched up the narration a bit and used some different angles in the final cut, but the clip gives you a good sense of the DVD.

The First Football League

It is generally accepted that the first officially organised league competition in the world was the (English) Football League formed in 1888. Then, it consisted of 12 clubs all of whom were based in the North and the Midlands of England. The very first winners of the Football League Championship were Preston North End.

In 1992 with the influx of megabucks from BSkyB (now called Sky TV), the top teams broke away to form their own league called the FA Premier League.

Today, the original Football League has 3 divisions called; the Championship, Division 1 and Division 2.

So that England today has a total of 4 professional football leagues, with teams moving up (promotion) or down (relegation) through the leagues depending on their points tally at the end of each season.

The First Football Association Cup (FA Cup)

The first FA Cup final was played in England in 1872 between Royal Engineers and Wanderers in front of 2,000 spectators. Wanderers ran out 1-0 winners partly because Royal Engineers -- who were the favourites -- lost a player through injury, early in the match, and had to play on with only 10 men since substitutes were not allowed then. The "Challenge Cup", as it was known originally, was the brainchild of Mr. C. W. Alcock of Sunderland who proposed only the year before that "A challenge cup should be established in connection with the Association"; the "Association" being the Football Association, hence the FA Cup.

The Oldest Football Club in the World

There have always been many arguments over the oldest football club in the world. Here are some facts to consider though...

The oldest, continuously documented, "football" club in the world is Dublin University Football Club, in the Republic of Ireland, which was founded in 1854. However, the club now plays Rugby Union, not Association Football. For this reason it is not officially recognized as the oldest football club in the world.

Sheffield Football Club -- Sheffield FC -- founded in England in 1857, is recognised by both the English FA and FIFA as being the oldest, continuously documented football club in the world still playing Association Football. They play in the Northern Premier League Division 1 South in England. So they are generally now recognised as being the oldest football club in the world.

But, there is documentation of a "football club" in Edinburgh, Scotland between 1824 and 1841. Several documents still exist today which refer to the "Foot Ball Club" and it's rules. It worked rather like a golf club where members selected teams from their membership to play one another. The club has been now been reconstituted and plays under the name of "The Foot Ball Club of Edinburgh" in an amateur capacity.

The First International Football Match

The first international football match was played between Scotland and England in Glasgow, Scotland on 30th November 1872, in front of 4,000 spectators. The result was a hard-fought 0-0 draw. And of the 110 games played between 1872 and 1999 when the fixture was disbanded, Scotland had won 41, England 45, and 24 games had ended in a draw.

The First Trainer's Dugout

The first ever recorded use of a sunken covered enclosure at the side of the pitch (the dugout) was in the early 1920s at Pittodrie Stadium, Aberdeen, Scotland. The trainer at the time, Donald Coleman, had it built to protect himself while he took detailed notes of his players during matches, as was his practice, and, was partly sunken into the ground so as not to block spectators' views of the game. Visiting teams were so impressed that the idea soon spread throughout the UK and then the rest of the world.

College football coaches are in the business of making money. A coach needs to recruit the best talent possible so he can have a winning season, go to a bowl game, keep his job and get a new bigger better contract. My point is that if coaches treat the recruiting process as a business. The warning for the recruit is that it can be ruthless at times. My best tip is that regardless of what a recruiter says to, you have nothing until you sign the Letter of Intent.

You the prospective student-athlete need to approach the recruiting process as a business as well. As the process unfolds be prepared at every turn. Remember you are a salesman selling yourself to the recruiter. You need to have something to offer that peaks their interest. Ask the right questions and be prepared to answer questions when talking to a coach. Keep a notebook or folder with the letters you receive. Fill-out the questionnaires and send it back right away. Return phone call same day always with interest and being polite. Take notes on everything from potential teammates, coaches, facilities and so on when going on official or unofficial visits.

How about the college or university. It is a big business for them. They need to generate lots of money to fuel their programs, improve their facilities and keep the boosters happy. The better the coach, the better the team, the better the win loss record. The translation is, the more tickets sold means more revenue for the school. Going to a bowl game is the ultimate goal. Bowl appearances are worth millions to the schools. How about TV revenue where there is millions more to be had. Got the picture?

With the popularity of football still high, you should take this opportunity to buy more football related stuff. Whether it is to show your loyalty or if you just want to look your best, apparel geared for football fans is so diverse. There are a lot of things out there to choose from.

From jerseys alone, you have a choice of buying authentic jerseys or replica jerseys. There are also throwback jerseys and even youth NFL football jerseys. Whether old or young, male or female, a youth NFL football jersey is available in different sizes and colors. Now before anything else, you should be aware that the official license to make jerseys with the National Football League logo is usually awarded to big apparel companies like Reebok. Don't worry too much though about the price in buying these jerseys. Remember, you can choose from either an authentic jersey or a replica jersey. In the case of Reebok, they also have what is called the premier jersey.

But if you're not into jerseys, there is also a selection that includes pajamas, yes pajamas, hats and sweatshirts. You could wear tank tops so you won't have trouble waving your arms and cheering. Or if you think the weather is going to be cold, then prepare for it and buy a jacket. Think it's going to be sunny? Buy a hat. Whatever it is you decide to buy, just be sure to buy it before the season starts.

There's nothing like wearing your favorite youth NFL football jerseys in a game to show your love as well as loyalty to your team. If going to the stadium is not for you, there's nothing wrong with wearing your favorite youth NFL football jerseys at a barbecue picnic. Whether it at your own backyard or at a friend's, you could eat and watch with style.

So have you decided what to buy yet? Don't worry about it too much. There are many stores where you can buy youth NFL football jerseys. Aside from jerseys, some stores even sell jackets, hats, and other apparels. Some stores also offer jerseys of different sizes. Thus you can buy one for your wife and even for your son or daughter. The key is to look at different shops. When buying, don't just stop at one store. Try to browse through different ones. That way, you can compare the prices and know which one to buy based on your budget. Also try to look for stores that offer discounts when you buy in bulk. This way, you get to save money and buy everyone in your family football jerseys.

Still not sure what to buy? Suppose a game is going to be held where you live. You've either misplaced your football gear or worse, lost them. You go to the store but they're sold out. Would be willing to just wear a shirt to the game? You probably wouldn't. So to avoid situations like these from happening, it is better to buy early.

So always keep in mind that whether you want to be classy or not, nothing beats watching the game and showing your support to your team through youth NFL football jerseys.

Philadelphia Eagles NFL Cinch Bag

Perfect for school books, shoes, practice clothes

I'm sure that everyone who follows the NFL has surely heard more than they ever cared to about the recent Plaxico Burress-shoots-himself story. And along with the discussion about his particular situation came a broader discussion about NFL players carrying handguns, and the NFL's league-wide gun policy, or lack thereof. Unfortunately, one thing that I have seen repeated over the airwaves (I'm talking to you ESPN) is the notion that the NFL is somehow limited in what it can do about its players carrying handguns by the Second Amendment.

This idea is simply rubbish. The NFL can contractually obligate its players to refrain from carrying handguns without running afoul of any constitutional rights. The reason is that the NFL can never, no matter how hard it tries, violate the constitutional rights of anyone. The most basic of constitutional principles is that the constitution protects people from governmental action, not those of other private individuals or organizations, such as the NFL.

In order for anyone to have a legitimate claim that their constitutional rights were violated, the conduct complained of must have been engaged in by a "state actor" (like the police, the FBI, or the IRS). Absent state action, there simply cannot be a constitutional violation of any sort - with some very limited exceptions where private citizens are acting on behalf of a state actor (like if the police asked your landlord to go into your apartment and confiscate illegal drugs).

So while there are interesting public policy and labor issues surrounding a potential NFL gun policy that it will negotiate with the Players' Union, there are no constitutional issues anywhere in the picture. The NFL can mandate that players refrain from carrying guns just the same as it can mandate that players refrain from taking steroids.

We moved into a new location and the address issues have been significant for many packages. The folks at J&J's SuperStore -Sportscards/Collectibles/Games were wonderful in their customer service and helping get it to me. While a mini-helmet is a mini-helmet, J&J's is outstanding.

Have you become as annoyed as I have with Notre Dame Football? I am a huge fan of Notre Dame and will always love the Irish, but I am very frustrated with the loss to North carolina. They lost for the same reason they tried to blow the game against Stanford. Here is my evaluation of the games.

The first thing that went wrong started against Stanford when Notre Dame had a 3 touchdown lead. This was in the third quarter and instead of putting up a couple more touchdowns and closing the game out they decided to become a shell of an offense and be conservative. They also became conservative on Defense allowing Stanford to come back and only lose by a touchdown.

Instead they should have kept being aggressive and scoring points. One more touchdown would have closed it out for good. Also, it did not help that a highly talented high school kicker recruited by Notre Dame missed two field goals in the game and was 1 for 7 at the end of the game.

Now against North Carolina it was a lot of the same, but still a bit different. Clausen made a huge mistake, but the coach should have seen that this would happen and called a different play. Notre Dame was up 17 to 9 at the beginning of the second half and got the ball back. This is when Clausen threw an interception that was ran back for a touchdown.

This happened on a little out route that had almost been jumped a couple times in the first half. It was time to use the old pump fake and send the guy deep for the dagger in the throat. If they would have done this even if it ended up as a deep interception the score would have been the same. If they complete it, then it is probably a touchdown and Notre Dame can start to pull away.

On top of that they defense got conservative with the lead again and gave up points. They stopped blitzing and started giving shorter pass plays so the North Carolina offense could walk right down the field. Weis needs to start putting up points like crazy and getting his team to play a complete game. If they can do this, then the Notre Dame football team will beat teams like North Carolina by four touchdowns.

TeamExpress - Reebok NFL Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl Cap

Reebok NFL Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl Cap Get your official Super Bowl XLIII locker room hat here. The same hats worn by your World Champion Pittsburgh Steelers. Reebok logo on side and official Super Bowl XLIII logo on the back. nylon/ - NFL Caps & Beenies

Well, it's that time of year again. No, not the holidays. It's Super Bowl ad writing time.

And all the big boys at all the fancy advertising agencies across the country are, as we speak, camping out at Starbucks and abandoning all thoughts of REM sleep, and disappointing spouses (yet again) in the unrealistic hopes of writing an ad that somehow makes it onto the Super Bowl.

And they go through this pain and suffering because every one of them knows that writing a Super Bowl ad that gets produced and is shown during the game will change their lives forever.

You can sleep in February. There are fewer days then anyway.

This year, the NFL has decided to involve you and me, the fans, to write a Super Bowl spot (call them spots if you want to sound professional). Rather than just hand the creative brief to their advertising agency and let the creatives go at it like a piece of rib eye thrown to blood-thirsty hyenas, the National Football League wants to involve 'real' folk this year.

Marketing ploy? Yep. Been done before? Sure. Who cares? This is beyond huge. This could get you onto 'Entertainment Tonight.' And everyone wants to get onto 'Entertainment Tonight.'

Fact is, the spots on the Super Bowl receive as much (if not more) attention than the game itself. USA Today will feature an entire SECTION on who had the best ads the very next Monday. People in colorless cubicles and on construction sites and at gas stations across the country will be talking about which ad was the best. People who've never met will sit in hotel lobbies and ask each other things like "you think they pushed it far enough in that Fed Ex spot last night?"

That's how big a deal Super Bowl ads are.

The commercial that is chosen will be remembered LONG after it airs. It will become a part of our culture. Think about that...you now have the chance to create something that WILL become part of our culture for years to come. Exaggeration? Hardly, Apple's 1984 spot (with its beautifully woven Russian undertones) featured a woman throwing the sledgehammer through Big Brother defined a critical moment in the live of our country.

And instead of dedicating your life to writing a novel or spending a lifetime developing artwork, you can do it in just 30 seconds.

Okay. So if you are going to write the NFL Super Bowl Ad that gets produced, that gets you onto the commercial shoot and then gets your flown down to South Florida for the Super Bowl itself... here's some things you must do.

1) Think Like A Screenwriter

We've all been to the movies. We've all know that 'movie feeling.' It's epic. It feels like it belongs to be seen on an IMAX screen. It could be a dramatic re-entry from a lunar mission or the tension between two lovers in Paris, or it could be a child walking down a hallway...the point is that it doesn't have to be big...it has to feel big.

Get inspired. Go watch a Tim Burton movie. Or Apollo 13. Or The Color Purple. Rent Rosebud. Whatever it takes to put your mind in the right place.

2) Don't Feel The Need to Explain Anything In The Ad

Super Bowl commercials don't talk about product features. We're never told a laundry list of the reasons why Bud Light is the best beer in a Super Bowl spot or why Pepsi is the only soda you should 'rely' on. And that's great news, because it means you can focus on your 'theater' (the action of your commercial.)

Don't waste your time writing announcer copy explaining the benefits of the NFL. People know the benefits of the NFL. You'll be wasting valuable time. So keep your copy to a minimum and focus on 'writing' a spot that people will remember.

3) Choose To Be Relevant Visually OR Verbally

Two very different lines of thinking here: do you show football related action or don't you? This is very important. Do you show some action that has nothing at all to do with football and then tie it back to the NFL with some very clever line at the end or do you focus on an aspect of football throughout your theater and then still wrap up the spot with a very clever line at the end. (Hopefully you saw the need to wrap up your spot cleverly TWICE.)

What's the difference between visual and verbal relevance?

If you write a spot about a monkey and several mentally challenged men in a garage playing with spoons and singing off key about absolutely nothing and then at the end you write a line about not wasting money (real super bowl spot), that's verbal relevance. It's incredibly memorable. Along with a ton of people, I remember that it was for E*Trade. And because E*Trade took such a risk...I like them better as a brand for it.

So if you go this route, go crazy. But you'd better have a great line at the end like they did. Which was about wasting money, which they just did by showing crazy people and a money in a garage and which you won't do if you come to E*Trade.

Brilliant thinking.

However, if you write a spot about the guy who laces up the footballs and cleans up the towels and then (something cool happens here) then you are being visually relevant. Anything about football, from the guy who cuts the grass at the field to where they test the cleats to where helmets are used as cocktail glasses...is visually relevant.

Visual relevance is MUCH easier to sell. But MUCH LESS memorable.

4) Be Very, Very Hard on Yourself

People in the advertising world would literally sing the National Anthem of Kazakhstan naked in Grand Central Station during the height of rush hour for the next six to eight years for the opportunity to produce a Super Bowl spot.

So push it. Have fun with it. It is, after all, copywriting. Not accounting (sorry accountants, had to.)

Still don't know how to get the idea out but know you've got a great one? Contact me with your specifics, and I'll help. I'll add your questions and my answers to my web site and we'll call it even.

At the dog track, favorites win about 30% of their races. That sounds pretty good, but studies show that they pay poorly, so they only pay back about 84 cents of each dollar you bet on them to win over time. This is NOT the way to win at the dog track, is it?

On the other hand, if you bet only longshots, you'll lose even more money. They only pay about 70 cents out of the dollar you bet on them to win. Obviously, betting only longshots or only favorites is a losing proposition. This is why 90% of the people who bet on dog races lose.

So, what does the other 10% do differently that makes them winners? Well, they probably have a pretty good handicapping system, for one thing. One that takes many factors into consideration instead of just betting the odds on the toteboard.

Also, they don't bet with the crowd on favorites or against the crowd on longshots. They bet on what THEY think will come in, no matter what the odds are on the dog. (Except in some rare cases when they know the dog won't pay off if it comes in because it's at such low odds.)

Dogs don't come in because the crowd likes them. Dogs come in because they're better than the other dogs they're racing against. Many times, the crowd notices only some of the factors that affect how the race is run and give that factor too much significance.

For instance, many times the favorite is a dog with early speed. Early speed is good, but it takes more than that to win a race. If the dog fades or another dog is a great closer, early speed can get lost in the dust. That's why the ten percent of the crowd who win go past looking for early speed and look for the other factors that tell them what to bet on.

To win at the dog track, you need a winning system. You can learn the basics of handicapping from a program or online, but to really make good money at the dog track consistently, you need proven Greyhound Handicapping Systems.

You can find systems, articles and tips to help you win at the dog track from someone who shares over 30 years of "going to the dogs" at http://ebnetr.com

Wisconsin is a state in the Midwestern region of the United States. The state borders two of the five great lakes (Lake Superior and Lake Michigan), and has a population of over 5 million.

Wisconsin has a reputation as a farming state, and while it is true it that the state produces more dairy products than any other state except California, and also is the nation's largest cheese producer, in fact, the state gets far more income from manufacturing than it does from agriculture (albeit one of the leading manufacturing industries is in fact food processing). Other important industries in Wisconsin include healthcare and tourism.

The state capital of Wisconsin is Madison, and the largest city is Milwaukee. Other cities in Wisconsin include Appleton, Eau Claire, Green Bay, Janesville, Kenosha, La Crosse, Oshkosh, Racine, Sheboygan, Waukesha and West Allis.

Attractions and places of interest in Wisconsin include Circus World Museum in Baraboo, Milwaukee Art Museum in Milwaukee and Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc. There are also at least 4 zoos in the state including Milwaukee County Zoo, which is of course in Milwaukee. Finally, the Wisconsin State Fair, which is held in West Allis, is a popular annual event.

- Some of the major companies with their headquarters in Wisconsin are Fiserv, Inc. (in Brookfield), Johnson Controls (in Milwaukee), Manpower (in Milwaukee) and Northwestern Mutual (in Milwaukee).

- Probably the most famous educational institution in Wisconsin is the University of Wisconsin-Madison which is in Madison.

- Professional sports teams in Wisconsin include the Beloit Snappers (Midwest League baseball) in Beloit, the Green Bay Packers (American football in the NFL) in Green Bay, the Milwaukee Brewers (Major League Baseball) in Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Bucks (National Basketball Association) in Milwaukee, and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Midwest League baseball) in Grand Chute.

Like chasing the golden pot at the end of the rainbow, being a professional sports bettor was traditionally extremely difficult. Without resorting to match fixing or making use of insider information, it was near impossible to beat the bookies over-round. But the world has changed and now it is the bookies who are a dying breed. Betfair revolutionized the sports betting business. By creating an exchange where players could lay and back against each other, the over-round disappeared. For most, it simply means getting a better price for your sports betting entertainment. You will win more on Betfair and even get the opportunity to lay. But for the more ambitious, there are betfair strategies that have opened up new opportunities for aspiring professional gamblers.

Like all markets, the Betfair market is susceptible to mispricing. Markets are volatile since the humans involved are themselves fickle and volatile creatures. Yet this opens up the first opportunity, the betfair value betting strategy. That is, by laying and backing events at prices which offer value, you can create positive expected value. That positive expected value turns into real profits over the long run.

The other path is through arbitraging or trading the market. Basically, arbers exploit the price differences between betfair odds and the odds offered by other bookmakers. In this way, you can lay and back on the same event to create a guaranteed profit. Betfair trading is possible within just the Betfair market, where you are exploiting price movements across time to create a guaranteed profit on an event.

While there is a new class of gamblers making a professional living just by gambling on Betfair, it is by no means easy. It requires a lot of work. It will take time to perfect your Betfair trading strategy and constantly reviewing your work. But for those capable, it is a great way to make an independent living.

Good Luck to those who make it!

Some of the qualities of great NFL quarterbacks are quite obvious and well known by coaches and by football fans. Top quarterbacks tend to be about 6'3" tall and they typically weigh about two hundred and fifteen pounds. In addition, they need a strong throwing arm, quick feet, the ability to read defenses, outstanding vision, fine reflexes, clock management skills, self-discipline, focus, confidence and a personality which allows them to stay calm under pressure.

The great quarterbacks also tend to be good leaders and outstanding communicators. Politicians have the luxury of using speech writers to assist them when they need to communicate with their publics. Quarterbacks need to be able to communicate effectively with the players and the coaches during the heat of fast paced battle.

Several years ago, a talented young quarterback came to see me because he wanted to learn how he could better relate to and communicate with his teammates in the huddle. This fine young man had all the physical tools of a great football general. He was a star in high school, but had more difficulty managing the members of his college team who came from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds.

This young man was rather quiet, shy and soft spoken and he was having some difficulty in motivating and encouraging his teammates, particularly when they were faced with pressure and chaos which are often present in an important and close game.

The first thing I helped him with was the building of his own self-confidence .Once I built him up a bit, and his self-confidence grew, we started to discuss how he could improve his relationships with his teammates.

We spent some time working on his communication style and on bettering his on and off field relationships with his teammates. He made a point to spend more time off the field with members of the football team. I suggested that he keep a journal on each of this teammates which would remind him of what might motivate them during the course of a game.

Once he understood more about the other players, it was easy to develop more effective ways to talk to each and every member of his offensive team.

I familiarized him with motivational speeches and gave him some suggestions as to how to inspire, motivate, encourage and get his teammates focused on the bench and in the huddle. After all, I spend a lot my time giving emotional pep talks to patients every day.

A good quarterback needs to know how each of his teammates is likely to behave during a game. He also needs to know that what motivates lineman to block effectively may not be the same thing which inspires receivers to perform well. He also needs to know what he needs to do get his teammates to feel positively about him.

These kinds of management and leadership skills are not easy for a young athlete to learn. Consider how hard it is for experienced managers, leaders and executives to communicate effectively with their staffs and their employees

However, a young athlete who develops these interpersonal skills is building a foundation to be a fine leader in sports as well as in his off the field profession.

Pilates apparel is about comfort, fit and style. Find out what to look for when buying yours. This decision could be the difference between a good workout and a great workout.

Pilates has become such a buzz word, it's value has grown and grown. This has been great news for the retailers. But not so good for us, the buyers.

This means that clothes that are directly marketed as pilates apparel, may be more expensive than the same thing without the word "pilates" attached to it.

Having said that however, there are quality sites dedicated to pilates, offering a great service for clothing.

Many of those sites offer pilates clothes at discount prices. So it comes down to how much you're willing to find the best deals.

The bottom line is, don't be hooked just by the word "pilates" being used to describe clothing.

Pilates apparel is about any clothing that is suitable for pilates. Things that should get your attention are:

Comfort and Fit...Pants should be fitted around your waist and hips, with a slight flare or slit at the legs. Waist can be either elastic or draw-string, whatever suits you best, but never too tight.

Tops are much more varied. Ranging from tank-tops to tee-shirts and halter necks. Most contain an internal/shelf bra for extra support and comfort.

If you want extra coverage, then go for longer length tops that won't ride up during your pilates exercises. Raise your arms and move around when trying them on. They should always be fitted. Baggy tops will get in the way.

Size...If you're buying online then be sure to check the size charts. A credible retail site should offer you their specific sizing for small, medium and large. They often also have advice on their sizes, so look out for that.

Also always remember to check their return policy, this may differ from site to site. You don't want to make the purchase then find out your stuck with it, if it doesn't fit.

Fabrics...The most common are combinations of polyester, nylon, spandex and cotton. They form a good fit and can stretch with your body, vital for pilates.

They also repel sweat and keep your body dry, sometimes material such as Dry-Wik(TM) is used to help as well. Organic materials are also making a big break through.

Hygiene...If you workout from home or have your own pilates mat, then you don't need to worry about hygiene so much. But if you share mats or use shared mats in your pilates class, then it's an idea to get some ToeSox(TM).

These are like gloves for your feet. They have separate holes for each of your toes, allowing you to move them as if you were bare foot. They also have gripping on the sole to stop you from slipping on mats or machines.

Remember...Your pilates apparel should give you that extra bit of confidence in your pilates workouts. Make sure it's comfortable and makes you feel good, above anything else.

Style is a very personal choice. The huge range of styles means that you can get more value for money, by wearing your pilates apparel as everyday clothes.

Just make sure you keep a clean set for when you're doing pilates. Many clothes now come with antibacterial properties to prevent sweat odour, so you may get away with it once.. I wouldn't recommend it though!

Make the best pilates apparel choices on your way to comfy core workouts.
